Biblical Counseling
Biblical Counseling is a component of church care which seeks to apply God's truth revealed in the Bible to the numerous trials and temptations of life. Biblical counseling is founded upon the belief that the Bible sufficiently and helpfully addresses our non-organic problems of living and provides us "everything we need pertaining to life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3). Our counseling is discipleship-oriented; we do not practice psychotherapy.
If you are seeking counseling, please fill out our secure online application.
"Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light on my path." (Psalm 119:105)
How It Works
Biblical counseling adheres to a high view of God and a biblically accurate understanding of man. The counseling is derived from the Bible, so it is Christ-centered, practical, and focused on the gospel, where there is amazing hope and help. We require the above application to be filled out and submitted before counseling can begin. In counseling, we seek to gather information to understand the problems people face. We take time to teach solutions found in the Bible. We also assign homework to be completed in between sessions. Counseling sessions last about one hour. We offer this counseling free of charge; however, if you'd like to donate, $25 per session is suggested for non-Shawnee Bible Church members.

Certified Counseling
In our counseling, we value training and accountability. That's why we align ourselves with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), which provides our standard for counseling training and also grants professional certification to our biblical counselors who do formal counseling. We are happy to partner with an organization that has been pursuing excellence in biblical counseling for decades.

We hold a summer course at Shawnee Bible Church, spread out over four weekends, which covers the basics and foundations of biblical counseling and soul care for church leaders, lay counselors, parents, teachers, and mentors. This training draws out intensely practical implications and applications of two core doctrines of the faith: the sufficiency of Scripture and progressive sanctification. The training is designed to enrich the lives of any believer in Christ and to equip them to help real people with real problems using their Bible in dependence upon the Holy Spirit. Pease note: our counseling training does NOT count for credit towards ACBC certification.
